Support Gifft Hill School Today!

I am reaching out today to tell you about Gifft Hill School and to ask you to join me in supporting its unique mission.

Gifft Hill School is an independent day school located on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This is the only school that provides preschool through high school classes on St. John.

GHS is committed to teaching resilience through sustainability, environmental literacy, and place-based experiential learning. GHS offers financial assistance to 90% of students, with the average award exceeding $9,000 per student. Gifft Hill School is committed to providing educational access to all students willing to embrace our mission. Approximately 50% of the students are students of color, and 50% of the students are caucasian. The median family income of the students is $35,700, while 30% of the families have incomes below the federal U.S. poverty line.

The school is committed to foster a "compassionate community". For example, after hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, GHS became tuition-free for one year for all school-aged children on St. John. Nearly 100 public school students attended Gifft Hill School while their schools were closed. More recently, during the "safer at home" regulations put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gifft Hill School partnered with World Central Kitchen and other organizations to provide more than 3,500 meals for families in need.
